Explore the Famous North Shore of Oahu
Oahu Nature Tours offers fun, educational and guided eco-tours that show you the best of Oahu's native animal and plant life. No matter which tour you choose, you'll enjoy spectacular views and have plenty of great photo opportunities. Furthermore, you'll lean more about Hawaii's geology, archeology, mythology and history from your friendly guide. Tour groups are small with no more than 14 people.
This five-hour long excursion will take you to the famous North Shore of Oahu, the most famous surfing mecca in the world. But before that, you'll get to see many other interesting sights. Driving over the Koolau Mountains, the first stop is the serene Valley of the Temples, where you'll visit the picturesque Byodo Temple, nestled in a lush plateau at the base of the majestic 2,000 foot cliffs.
Afterward, you'll see Kahana Bay before arriving at Laie Point, a great location to watch several native plant and seabird species. Continuing north to Kahuku, you'll visit a few shrimp farms to see endangered wetland birds, such as the Black-neck stilt, Hawaiian coot and Moorhen. |
Next up is the world-famous Sunset Beach and Banzai Pipeline, where in the winter months (between November and April) incredibly high waves thrill viewers of all ages. Later on, you'll see the Hale o Lono Heiau, one of Oahu's best-preserved ancient temples. Located in the lush Waimea Valley, this unique archaeological site is a great place to learn about the native Hawaiian religion.
At Turtle Beach, you'll stop to observe rare green sea turtles resting on the beach. Traveling south, you'll arrive at the historic town of Haleiwa, home to many surfers, artists and craftspeople. After driving through large pineapple fields, you'll reach the famous Dole Plantation. On the way toward Pearl Harbor, your guide will show you Oahu's Stonehenge, where royal chiefs of the islands were born for more than 800 years. This is a great adventure for the entire family. Between points, you'll travel in a comfortable, well-appointed van.

Group of 10 had a ball
Reviewer: Jas Ingram (Atlanta, USA) June 15, 2006

Our family was in Hawaii for 10 days to celebrate a 50th anniversary. The last thing we did before boarding the plane was to take this trip. I feel we were especially fortunate to have Jess King and our driver Kane. Jess was brilliant, but kept it interesting and understandable for all of us, and Kane gave some great insights as a native (the two shared the microphone). We had spent a few short hours with them, but felt like we were leaving old friends when they dropped us off at the airport.
Just an example of their kindness... Our last stop was the Dole Plantation. When we got back on the bus, in honor of the anniversary, Jess had a lei for my mother-in-law, and Kane had made some fun objects, a grasshopper and a rose, from coconut leaves for them. When they learned that another couple was having an anniversary, Jess took off running across the grounds to BUY another lei!
I recommend this to anyone. It left us with a great memory.
Thanks! |
