Here are some of the highlights of Kauai, that are best seen from air:
Waimea Canyon: Known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, Kauai's Waimea Canyon is a truly stunning sight. Deep gullies and side canyons with the small streams sparkling at the bottoms, hidden waterfalls and sharp cliffs are revealed only from the air.
Wailua River: The only navigable river in Hawaii, the Wailua River was sacred to ancient Hawaiians, whose ali'I (royalty) made their home on its banks. Ancient petroglyphs cut into the rocks at the mouth of the river are still visible today during very low tides, and after storms when the sand has washed them clear. Today the popular Fern Grotto tour barge winds its way up this picturesque river. Lydgate Beach and Park is visible to the left of the river, enclosed by lava boulders into a calm, swimmable pool teeming with tropical fish. |
Hanalei Bay: Hanalei Bay, a beautiful crescent-shaped bay on Kauai's lush North Shore, is nestled at the foot of the incredible 3,000 - 4,000 interior of Kauai. Innumerable waterfalls cascade from the sides of the mountain, and rainbows are visible almost daily.
Polihale: Polihale boasts 17 unbroken miles of golden sand beach with an excellent view of neighbor islands Niihau and Lehua. Legends point to Polihale as the jumping-off place for the dead.
The tour is available 7 days a week and departs from Lihue Airport from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. At approximately 65-70 minutes, this is the ultimate in fixed wing touring of the Garden Isle.
The Aircraft: Their aircraft, which is hangared at the Lihue Airport, meets all the FAA safety requirements and is extremely trustworthy. Wings Over Kauai is located in the Lihue Airport - the same airport all mainland and interisland flights arrive and depart from. Proceed toward the airport on Ahukini Road and bear left at the 3 flag poles. After the stop sign, drive straight ahead until just past the FedEx office. Turn right into the commuter terminal parking area (just across the street from the helipads). You will be met by the pilot in the commuter terminal lounge area. |
