- Check in time is 8:30 a.m. at the Haleakala ("House of the Sun") visitor center and departure at 9:00 a.m. - elevation is 9,423 feet. Return is approximately 2:00 p.m.
- Ride descends 2,500 feet through a cinder desert to the valley floor
- Enjoy the panoramic view of cinder cones, lava flows and feel the solitude and quiet this wilderness has to offer.
- Lunch will be served at the junction.
- Riders are provided with windbreaker jackets, riding pants and gloves.
Tips: - Dress warmly, as the high altitude in the early morning hours can be brisk. Wear closed toed shoes (no sandals).
- Bring: hat, sunglasses, sun cream, and camera.
- Riders must be at least 12 yrs old (or 10 years old if they have experience riding horses), and under 210 lbs. Please no pregnant women.

For the spectacular drive up the Haleakala volcano, it is suggested you leave 3 hours prior to your scheduled activity. There are many beautiful vistas as you drive up the volcano, so it is best to leave some extra time in your schedule.
From Kahului, take the Hana highway (Hwy 36) east to the Haleakala Highway (Hwy 37). In Pukalani, turn east on to highway 377 (continuation of the Haleakala Highway). The Haleakala Highway turns to Hwy 378 for the accent to the summit. The House of the Sun Visitor Center is located at the summit of Haleakala volcano on Haleakala Highway (also called Crater Road). |
