Turtle Canyons Snorkel Tour
Hawaii offers excellent conditions for snorkelers and scuba divers. The water is crystal clear and there's an abundance of fish, many of them found nowhere else on Earth. On this tour, you'll dive at two of the following: Turtle Canyons, Koko Craters, Spitting Cave, or Anglers Reef. Weather conditions and currents vary widely throughout the year, and the location with the best conditions on that day will be chosen by the dive master.
Turtle Canyons - lava flows have formed a giant, hand-shaped coral reef featuring mountains and valleys. You'll see all kinds of marine life, including sea turtles, eels, octopus, sea urchins, colorful tropical and game fish, sting rays, trumpet and blow fish and brittle stars. The diving depth is about 25 to 35 feet.
Koko Craters - three large and two small underwater volcanic craters form a unique and mysterious wonderland. You can dive the crater walls and discover what's hiding in the crevices: giant sea turtles, living seashells, coral, reef fish, octopus and occasionally even stingrays or harmless reef sharks. The diving depth is about 35 to 40 feet.
Spitting Cave - also known as China Wall, this dive site provides a nice 35 to 50 foot wall. The surface rock formations sometimes send the ocean swells high into the air, therefore the name Spitting Cave. Here, you can explore many underwater caves and ledges. Turtles, eagle rays and many of Hawaii's eel species can be observed. |
Angler's Reef - this dive site features a large, steep lava flow with an edge located with complex rock formations. You'll see an abundance of colorful fish, eels, turtles and occasionally a white-tip reef shark, which is harmless.
To get to those dive sites, you'll board a spacious 49-passenger trimaran. There are several licensed instructors aboard who will be happy to answer all your questions. You'll also find onboard bathrooms for your convenience. The vessel is insured, licensed, Coast Guard inspected and designed to make snorkeling fun, comfortable and easy!
The boat captain and instructors are all local people - not only experts on the marine life found among Hawaii's reefs, wrecks and caves, but also very knowledgeable in Hawaiian history and the island way of life They are very concerned about protecting the ecology and are happy to share their island heritage with you.
For those wishing to SCUBA on this excursion, please book the scuba excursion .
The beautiful tropical waters off Oahu are excellent for both snorkeling and SCUBA. We recommend SCUBA on this excursion, but for those without SCUBA certification (or wishing to join friends who will be scuba diving) this snorkeling package will take you to locations normally reserved for SCUBA diving. |

This is not a snorkel tour, it is a scuba tour, that should be made clear.

Upon being picked up, our party learned that most of the people on the boat with us would be scuba diving. We were given the option to scuba dive instead of snorkel and my husband and I did this, but my sister, mother, and brother-in-law chose to still snorkel.
The diving experience was WONDERFUL. We enjoyed the people leading and instructing us. We were able to see many types of fish and turtles. I would highly recommend the scuba diving which can also be found on the Big Kahuna site for those interested.
In summary, I think the snorkeling is only offered for family members who want to ride along on the boat, but do not want to scuba dive. The diving was great and you need no previous experience or training. |
