See the part of Hawaii most people miss! Come aboard the Atlantis, a real passenger submarine and explore the ocean's depths. You'll see many colorful tropical fish, turtles and other marine life, a sunken shipwreck and brilliant corals.

Atlantis Submarine Oahu Tour

Want to explore the ocean without bulky scuba equipment? Then this tour is for you. Come aboard the Atlantis, a real passenger submarine for an adventure of a lifetime. You'll see the same spectacular underwater world that scuba divers see, but without having to get wet, which makes this also a great activity for the whole family.

As you dive down toward the ocean floor, you'll discover magnificent coral reefs and all kinds of marine life, including sharks, turtles, colorful fish and sometimes even whales, who'll gaze back at you just as curiously as you stare at them. You'll even come across a sunken shipwreck and wrecked airplane! On this tour, you'll get an up close look at Hawaii's ocean floor in depths of up to 100 feet (30 m).

All Atlantis submarines are U.S. Coast Guard approved and equipped with stabilizers for a smooth, enjoyable ride. They are also air-conditioned and fully pressurized so that everyone will feel perfectly comfortable during the dive. And the best thing is that everyone gets the best seat in the house because all seats are front-row seats. Each is positioned in front of a large view port so that you'll get a clear and unobstructed view of the underwater world. Audio headset narrations are available in English, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.

You can choose between two submarine tours, the 48-passenger or the 64-passenger submarine dive. Both tours dive the same route; the only difference is that the 64-passenger submarine dive takes place of the Atlantis XIV, which is the world's largest hi-tech passenger submarine. This magnificent vessel offers an enhanced amount of personal space and 65% larger view ports (compared with the 48-passenger sub). But no matter which tour you choose, you're sure to have a blast! Guests on both tours also receive a complimentary Atlantis souvenir dive log including gift shop specials.

Atlantis submarine dives are safe, educational and most of all fun. They have even been featured on National Geographic specials. So if you haven't been to the bottom of the ocean before, a submarine dive is a must do!

This tour departs several times a day from the Hilton Hawaiian Village pier. You first check in at the Atlantis Submarines ticket booth located at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Ali'i Tower next to the Tropics Cafe. Then you'll board a shuttle boat, which will take you to the dive site. The excursion includes a full safety briefing as well as the opportunity to view Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head from the ocean. You'll then be treated to the sight of your submarine surfacing from the deep, ready to take you on board!

The Route:
Board the Atlantis shuttle boat Discovery at the Hilton Hawaiian Village pier in Waikiki
20_minute ride to the dive site off Waikiki Beach
Board the submarine
At 75 feet depth: You'll see the pyramids - the University of Hawaii's artificial reef project, which established a safe breeding ground for tropical fish

At 80 feet depth: You'll be passing the Pali O Pono natural coral reef, formed on an ancient lava flow
At 85 feet depth: You'll observe Japanese-designed and built artificial reefs, which are now home to an abundance of marine life
At 110 feet depth: This is the deepest part of your dive, where you'll see remnants of two mid-Pacific planes
Then it's back up to 75 feet, where you'll get an up close look at the tanker YO-257, which sank in 1989, and the Korean fishing vessel St. Pedro, which sank in 1996
Back to the surface! You'll now board the Discovery for a scenic ride back to Waikiki.

We really enjoyed our submarine tour. I am very glad we paid the extra money for the larger sub with larger port holes for viewing. Our kids loved the tour and loved looking for different species of fish to check off on their brochure that was given out at the beginning of the tour. Our only complaint was the boat that took us out to where the submarine was docked. It was a fairly rough ride and my husband was quite green by the time he got onto the sub, and thus missed most of the next hour trying not to be sick. Either warn people that it can cause seasickness, or provide a smoother means of transportation out to the sub. Apart from that, it was great. Our guide was very pleasant, energetic and informative.

This tour was, without a doubt, a fantastic ride! Notwithstanding the phenomenal research being conducted by the Atlantis and University of Hawaii, the tour offered a glimpse of many different species co-habitating. The crew was incredibly knowledgeable and very, very personable. I would not hesitate to do this tour again.

Don’t leave Hawaii before you check out the sub!

I had to confess I was a little scared to go to a submarine. As something I had never done before, it took me a while to make that decision... and I will never regret it! It was an incredible experience! The Atlantis sub dove really deep under the ocean (118 feet below the surface) where I saw so many cool fish and reefs down there. The sub windows were very big and I felt like I am in a different world. And really I was! It is a different version of the paradise in Hawaii, but this time under the water. The staff was very friendly; they treated everybody with a smile and personal attention. There was detailed narration and I learned so much about the amazing underwater creatures. I strongly recommend this tour to everybody! I am still excited when I think about it.
