This great tour gives you an overview of the entire Big Island of Hawaii. See the most spectacular sights the island has to offer and make some lasting memories.

Big Island Grand Circle Tour

Discover the grandeur and beauty of the Big Island, an island that truly deserves this name. Larger than all the other five main Hawaiian Islands combined, this is an island of wonder and diversity.

On this tour, you'll see black sand beaches, lush rainforests, historic lava flows, active volcanoes, huge coffee plantations where the world-famous Kona coffee is grown, waterfalls and green hills that roll down to the sea. All the way around this island there'll be plenty of great photo opportunities.

At Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, visit the Jagger Museum, where you can watch a movie about eruptions, watch a seismograph at work monitoring Kilauea, and find lots of interesting information about volcanoes, vulcanology, and Hawaiian legends. Step outside this Museum and you will be greeted by the vast moon-like setting of Kilauea caldera, where steam vents out of the earth and orchids grow wild in the surrounding fields. Down the eastern slope of this volcano, the scenery changes quickly, from arid lavascape to lush tropical rain forest. Wander along a paved path through a tree fern jungle that conceals an ancient lava tube – take a stroll thought this 400 foot tube where the lava once flowed on its journey to the sea. Less than 15 miles to the southeast, lava tubes exactly like this one (minus the tourists) are still carrying 90,000 gallons of lava every minute to the edge of the ocean!

Between points, you'll travel in comfort in a luxury air-conditioned bus. Your friendly, knowledgeable driver will narrate and provide valuable information about the history, geology, ecology, legends and lore of this beautiful island, as well as sharing insights and experiences which cannot be found in any guidebook.

Tour was a good sampling of the Big Island. Guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. Well worth the money. The lunch location only had choices of a buffet or a snack bar at the park center.

A great overview of the Big Island

Whenever our family goes to a new island, we try to do one of the circle tours because it gives a great overview of everything on that island. Then later we rent a car and go back to some of the places that caught our eye. The Big Island is full of spectacular things to see and do, and I think we saw most of them that first day. We got to see several green sea turtles sunning themselves on a gorgeous black sand beach. The trip up to and around Kilauea Volcano was really full of grand scenery and fun stops. Our boys loved walking through the ancient lava tube and seeing the steam vents near the crater continuously pumping out hot gases from underground. We lost count of the many beautiful waterfalls we saw along the way. There was so much stunning diversity of things to see that words just don’t do it justice!

One of the best things about this tour was our driver and guide. His name is Kalani, and he had so much information to share with us, not only about the natural history, ecology, cultural background, agriculture, etc, but he also shared some wonderful insights and personal stories that one could never find in any tour book. We learned so much from him, and felt that our experience of the Big Island was much enhanced by his wisdom and aloha.
