Doors Off Tour
Experience the excitement of watching a live volcano up close and from high above and best of all, with no doors in the way! Feel the heat radiating from the lava as you soar above the volcano.
This is an adventure of a lifetime for those looking for an exciting alternative helicopter flight that is a little out of the ordinary.
On this open cabin flight, you'll enjoy two-way communication allowing you to speak directly with your pilot, who will answer any question you might have. Your pilot will also provide you with lots of informative narration along the way.
You'll fly in the all-window-seats Hughes 500, which has room for 4 passengers. |

Exciting and a little scary, but truly unique
Reviewer: NYCNYC (NYC, USA) March 7, 2010

It was a little scary at first to be flapping in the breeze up there with no doors, but very exciting and fabulous photos were had. My only issue was that the wind was whipping my eyelashes so much that I could barely see until we came down in elevation at the volcano. The flight to and from the volcano was tough for me but my friend had no problem so I guess it's only an issue if you have really long lashes. Take goggles or something in that case and you'll fully enjoy the ride! |

Most exciting memory

Our pilot let me change lenses in flight which was awesome. The ground staff had highly discouraged bringing a 2nd lens. The ground staff were excellent though, always great to deal with--our flight was delayed 2 days due to the weather and they did everything possible to accommodate us. I was a bit scared flying with the doors off but the flight harness is very secure and I had total confidence in our pilot--all these guys are former military pilots who are waaayyy overqualified to fly sightseeing tours. Our Pilot knew our main interest was the volcano so we spent a lot of time there. He gave us great photo angles from everywhere in the helicopter. We saw lava and skylights into lava tubes. It was incredible!! We knew right where to hike the next day because of our aerial preview. Much Mahalo! |

Doors Off Helicopter Tour - BEST EXPERIENCE
Reviewer: Mark (Denver, USA) February 25, 2009

This was the highlight of our trip to Hawaii. The doors off Helicopter tour was absolutely amazing and very worth the money. There is no obstruction of your view without the doors, so our pictures and video turned out awesome. This is a MUST do. |

Good ride, scenery ok

The helicopter ride with the doors off was good. We were disappointed that there wasn't much lava flowing that we could see. I recommend that you check lava conditions prior to booking a flight.
I was very happy with Big Kahuna they had the best price and I there were no hidden fees or fuel charges when we arriving at the airport. |

Volcano adventure

I had a great time on this tour. Riding in a helicopter with the doors off is the most exciting thing I've done in a long time!
Following the safety briefing, we had a ride over the new lava flow, flying around 600 feet above it. How fantastic to be so close to the volcano. We also got to see the previous path of the lava and its effect on the countryside. I've been on helicopters with doors but this was far better and my pictures were outstanding with no reflections from the glass. A truly memorable experience and one of the highlights of my trip to the Big Island. |
