Hands-on Intro Flying Lesson is a special tour combining a scenic tour and the thrilling opportunity to do some flying yourself! This is a wonderful way to see the island, soaring the skies over northwest Oahu.

Glider Ride & "Hands-on" Glider Flying Mini-Lesson

After boarding the glider, a tow plane will take you up to the proper height and your skilled pilot will then take you on a tour of the spectacular North Shore. You'll see the world-famous big wave surfing beaches, enjoy breathtaking views of the Waianae Mountain Range and the pristine northshore coastline.

You will fly along the lush Waianae Mountains with rugged cliffs, cattle and horse trails; panoramic views of Oahu's world famous Waimea Bay; a glimpse of the Satellite Tracking Station at Kaena Point, and colorful windsurfing sails off the beach at Mokuleia. Depending on the length-of-ride and weather conditions, you can see all of the North Shore and most of the interior of the island including Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and Honolulu to the South.

While enjoying the beautiful scenery under you, "Hands-on" Intro Flying Lesson lets you also do some of the flying! Your intro flight-lesson will be with an experienced FAA certified glider (sailplane) pilot, and you'll be able to choose how much of the flying you would like to do. You will be amazed at the ease of working the controls, and you'll get an introduction to basic flying maneuvers.

This tour is offered 7 days a week and 8 times a day. "Hands-on" Intro Flying Lesson flight can be for durations of 10, 15, 20, 30, 40 and 60 minutes and can be for single-passenger riders only. Maximum passenger weight should be 220-pounds. A flight video may also be purchased after your flight. Free transportation from Waikiki is provided and it will take approximately three hours to complete activity from pick up to return.

Driving Directions


Thrifty Rent-A-Car System, Inc. 		From Waikiki:
Get on H-1 and go west. Keep going west until you come to H-2. Get on H-2 and head north. Drive to the end of H-2 through the town of Schofield.

After passing through Schofield the road turns into "Y". Stay left on the Y to the town of Waialua. In the small town of Waialua, take a left at the stop sign and drive under the "Overpass" bridge on Hwy 930 (Farrington Hwy) to Mokuleia. The signs are poor in Waialua. From the "overpass" bridge, it is 5 miles to Dillingham Airfield.

There are three entrances to the airfield. Take a left at the second entrance (gate #2).When you pull into the parking lot area, you will see a building towards the mountains side of the parking lot. Honolulu Soaring is located on the left side of the building under the sign "SAILPLANE RIDES". Walk to the left side of the building and ask for Honolulu Soaring.

It takes about one hour to drive from Waikiki to Dillingham Air Field.
