Haleakala Express Bike Tour
The Haleakala Express Tour leaves Haiku Marketplace in the morning. Enjoy a pleasant luxury van ride up to the entrance of Haleakala National Park, at an altitude of 6500' (please note that this tour does NOT go inside the park). You will be furnished with a new Gary Fisher mountain bike, helmet backpack, rain/wind gear, gloves and map with points of interest. After a safety briefing, you will begin your self-guided downhill adventure from outside Haleakala National Park.
It is your day on the mountain; you are free to go at your own pace. What lies before you is Maui's famous downhill expanse. You will drop 3,000' in 10 miles and curve around 29 switch backs!
Stop often and enjoy the incredible vistas of west Maui surrounded by the Pacific. Below 4,000' you come to "upcountry Maui". Vegetable farms, protea farms, lodges, galleries and Kula botanical gardens. You have the option of expanding your day and including Keokea, the Chinese community, Tedeschi Winery and the Enchanted Gardens. Further down the mountain is Makawao town- Paniolo (cowboy) country. Boutiques, shops, and wonderful places to eat where you can stop and enjoy a leisurely meal. |
What makes this trip more affordable is that the two hour Haleakala National Park van tour that Haleakala Bike Company does in their Sunrise and Summit tours it is not included in this tour. If your focus is just a great bike ride down the volcano and you won't miss the crater tour or sunrise, then this is the trip for you.
This is a full-day adventure tour. Most riders return back to the store around 2:00PM, but anytime before 4:30PM is fine. This is your day to enjoy a grand adventure on a bike; no need to rush or stop when you do not wish to stop! |

Directions |
|
Go to the main airport in Kahului. As you approach the airport, you will be on Highway 380. About 1/2 mile before the airport, you intersect with Highway 36 (note: some maps say Highway 360). Right in front of the Big K-Mart make a right turn. Go approximately 10 miles; you should find yourself at the 11 mile marker. That is exactly 4 miles past Paia.
At the 11 mile marker, there is a sign for Haiku and a street sign for Haiku Road. Turn right on Haiku Road, go up toward the mountain for 1 1/2 miles. Haleakala Bike Company is located in downtown Haiku. Across the intersection to your left is an old cannery building. It has been made into a mall, Haiku Marketplace. Please meet at the Haleakala Bike Company. |
