Kahua Ranch Horseback Adventure
This horseback riding tour leads you through the pasture lands of a 12,000-acre working cattle and sheep ranch, located in North Kohala on the Big Island of Hawaii. The Kahua Ranch is spectacularly beautiful as well as one of the oldest working ranches in Hawaii. You'll enjoy panoramic views of the mountains and the coastline and see stately cinder cones, ancient Hawaiian ruins and lush pastures dotted with grazing sheep and cattle.
You'll be accompanied by experienced paniolos, the Hawaiian cowboys, who will give you expert instructions, point out all the interesting sights along the way and answer any questions you might have. All horses are well-trained, which makes for superb riding conditions, maximum safety for beginners and maximum flexibility for expert riders. They offer open range riding, so you can feel absolutely free and don't need to follow a trail nose to tail. Opportunities for trotting and cantering are available as well. |
You can choose between two tours. The 1.5-Hour Ride starts at 1:30 pm and is ideal if your time is limited or if you just want to try out horseback riding. The 2.5-Hour Ride begins at 9 am is great if you want to stay in the saddle a little longer. All groups are relatively small, so make your reservation early. |

horsebackriding on our anniversary hawaii vacation

I was looking for something fun and special to do on our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii. We wanted to see the beautiful island of Hawaii in a different way that we could remember. We sure picked a GREAT experience horseback riding in the mountains of the Big Island.
My wife was a little hesitant at first riding a horse since we both hadn't ridden since we were kids BUT the ranch gave us a good refresher course and we both did great. My wife even ventured to trot with her horse "Freckles" after a short while. I'm very proud of her. Looking 4 fun -- do this adventure and take lots of pix to show everyone. Mahalo |

25th Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!
Reviewer: Karen (South Carolina, USA) September 9, 2007

My Husband, Tony & I, were on a cruise for our 25th wedding anniversary...what a way to celebrate.
The Kahua Ranch personnel were so great! They matched horse and rider so well. Tony & I own horses and have experience riding and they matched us with ones that we could really enjoy. We rode ahead and around the other riders and were able to enjoy the ultimate Hawaii ride. There was one lady that had never been on a horse and they had her cantering by the end of the ride and she was ecstatic.
We really enjoyed ourselves so much on this outing. We could do nothing but recommend this Ranch to anyone going to Hawaii.
Thank you so much for your hospitality. |
