Maui Whale Watch Cruise
Each year, from about December through April, more than 500 humpback whales frolic in their winter home, the deep blue waters between the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Kahoolawe. Sightings of these playful behemoths, which have been seen as large as 50 feet in Hawaii and would weigh about one ton per foot, have evoked many excited cries from the passengers and crew of the Prince Kuhio.
You can enjoy this fascinating whale watch cruise from December through March. With its superb viewing deck, the Prince Kuhio offers its guests the guarantee that there will be whale sightings or their next whale watch cruise aboard the Prince Kuhio will be free. The Prince Kuhio is the ideal boat for a complete whale watching and sightseeing experience. Its large observation deck rides about 13 feet above the water for unobstructed viewing, and the main cabin below has large windows. |
An on-board naturalist will provide expert commentary for you and make this whale watch tour the best on Maui. A portion of the cruise fees go to support the research of the Kewalo Basin Marine Lab. So Prince Kuhio's passengers are contributing to the conservation of these marvelous, but endangered mammals.
This two-hour cruise departs from Ma'alaea Harbor and cruises along the Kihei coastline toward the Alalakeiki Channel, where many humpbacks mate, calve and raise their young. Come see a mother whale frolic with her young calf or leap exuberantly out of the water for an absolutely unforgettable experience. |

Whale of an Adventure
Reviewer: Maui Mimi (Tulsa, OK, USA) April 14, 2008

I've been to Maui many times as I have a son who lives there and each time I go I do a whale watch. I have stuck to the same tour boat each time because it was always a pleasant time and I didn't see any need to change. This trip I was taking visitors from a cruise ship and needed a shorter trip.
Much to my surprise, this was the best trip of all I have made.(at least 15) The whales were plentiful and close, the narration by the expert on the boat was fabulous. Actually the trip was so good that I went again the following week and had the same experience.
I expect to be visiting Maui at least once a year from now on and will continue to make the this cruise my whale watching boat of choice. As I am constantly asked what to do on Maui by friends that know I go often, I will be glad to suggest that they not miss this wonderful adventure. |

Whale Watch 2/18/2008 Maui

This was the greatest experience of my life beside the birth of my children. We watched the whales for two hours straight. I have some of the greatest photos ever. The tail shot to die for!!! The whales seemed to put on the greatest show on earth. I wish we had more time to do another whale watch it was so awesome. I recommend it to all. And the crew and volunteers did a fantastic job keeping us informed about what was going on and the information they provided before and during the watch was very informative.. I can't say enough about how wonderful it was. You should only go to Maui when the whales are at the peak of the season. It allows you to get the best of the island all at one time. PARADISE on earth!!! |

Watching the big ones!

My family and I booked our Maui whale watching cruise through Big Kahuna. The cost was very resonable compared to the other activity centers I visited online and the information provided was very helpful (timing, locations, etc.). We arrived for our cruise at the specified location, signed in and were on the cruise within 30 minutes. The staff on the cruise were very knowledgeable and helpful. We saw over 15 whales and their display was wonderful. We got some great pictures and videos to share with our friends back home. Bottom line is that our experience was wonderful and I highly recommned Big Kahuna for future bookings. |
