Royal Hawaiian Luau
The new luau at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel is the "Aha Aina - a Royal Celebration".
The luau is held on the Royal Hawaiian Hotel's Ocean Lawn with the breathtaking backdrop of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head.
Activities Included in the luau celebration are before-diner activities steeped in traditional Hawaiian culture. There is "kapa" making - a form of cloth made from tree bark and used by the ancient Hawaiians for making clothing. The making of "Poi" or the staple Hawaiian food made from the Taro plant is presented. Also, the marine harvest of fish from the ocean was fundamental to the nutritional requirements of the native Hawaiians. This aspect of Hawaiian culture is visited with "na lawai'a" or the "tending of traditional fishing instruments". |
The start of the evening's feast is announced by the conch shell "pu". A storyteller shares tales of ancient Hawaiian traditions including the significance of lei giving, the ocean, and taro (the staple food of ancient Hawaiians). Dinner is served with traditional Hawaiian dishes along side modern Hawaii's famous "Pacific Fusion" cuisine.
After dinner, the Helumoa story unfolds with a dramatic performance of hula, song and dance. The show commemorates ancient islanders' rich history and culture along side modern influences of music and dance.
Only The Royal Hawaiian Hotel - also known as the 'The Pink Palace of the Pacific' - can present such a tropically elegant luau. |

EXCELLENCE!

Extremely beautiful women and gorgeous men! The music, dancing and food far exceeded our expectations. I would highly recommend this show as a must see. The story was well told and the singing and dancing were great fun. The young female ukulele player was unbelievable, what a talent.
This was a first rate - professional show and well worth the money. The food was 5 Star. This was the highlight of our trip. The backdrop with the ocean set the mood. I would definitely see it again. Thank you. |

great food...entertainment hit and miss

The food was spectacular...among the best Hawaiian food we had during our vacation. The entertainment had its ups and downs. The dancers were really good. The fire dancer was awesome. The virtuoso ukulele player was phenomenal! The male host was average, and the female singer (some kind of former beauty queen) was horrible. |

delicious luau

My three sisters and I were in Oahu for an eight day stay at the Outrigger Waikiki. So all we had to do was walk next door for the luau. It was delicious, and the show was fabulous, with the main attraction of the show being the little girl doing the hula. All of the performers did an excellent job, and it looked like all customers had a good view of show. I would highly recommend dinner show to anyone, matter of fact, have done so to people who I have discussed trip with. |
