Self Guided Bicycle Tour and Haleakala Park Tour
This is the ONLY ride which goes from the 6,500 foot level on the Haleakala volcano all the way down the the beach at Paia Bay Beach Park. That's 28 miles on a bicycle (all downhill!).
Complimentary round trip transportation is included. Also included is all the equipment you'll need (helmet, gloves, windbreaker jackets and pants) and complementary continental breakfast.
Half way down the mountain there is a place to stop for lunch.
On this unguided bike tour down Mt. Haleakala, you can enjoy the trip at your own pace. This unguided bicycle tour comes with an added treat - a van tour of Haleakala National Park at the summit. You will visit the "House of the Sun" Visitor Center at the beginning of your downhill volcano bicycle adventure.
Following your tour of the Center, you'll be taken down to elevation 6,500 feet, from where you'll begin your downhill bike ride all the way to Paia Beach Park in Paia. This is 28 mile ride, taken at your own comfortable pace. You don't need to worry about keeping up with a pack of riders or being held back by a slow group. Stop where you like to take in the amazing vistas and fill up your camera's memory card. Along the way, you can stop for a no-host lunch at the Sunrise Market and Protea Farm. |
This tour begins by meeting at "Starbucks Coffee" Shop in the Maui Market Place in Kahului at 7:45 am. Enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast before you take off on your tour! Upon completion of your bike ride, you'll be shuttled back to Starbucks. Shuttles depart Paia Beach Park at 1:00, 2:00, 2:30 and 3:00 pm. |

Tip - Dress warmly in layers, as it can be very chilly at the summit of Haleakala even in summertime.
- Must be at least 12 years old and 4'10" tall to participate.
- Please no pregnant women or those with back backs or other medical issues that would impair your ability to ride a bike.
- Must be a competent bike rider
- Must view the Mountain Rider safety video before your tour
- Must sign an acknowledgment of risk form
- For your added safety, you should consider the following before participating:
- * Are you taking any medications or have any medical conditions that would affect or impair your ability to ride safely?
- * Have your ridden a bike in the last 2 years?
- * Are you afraid of heights?
- * Are you comfortable on a bike (getting on and off safely,riding a bicycle in complete control, and maneuvering your bike through 180 degree turns)?
- Your safety is our #1 concern. Please be aware that we do everything in our ability to ensure your safety, however there is still the risk of injury or worse when riding a bike anywhere. Mountain Riders reserves the right to refuse or may terminate at any time the participation of any person whom it believes is either unable or unwilling to satisfy the qualifications of participating in this bike tour.

From Lahaina: Depart on SR-30 (Honoapiilani Hwy) south-east. Go for 16.1 miles. Turn right (east) onto SR-380 (Kuihelani Hwy) and go for 5.9 miles. Turn left (west) onto Alamaha St. and go for 0.1 miles. Turn right (north-east) onto Papa Pl. and go for 0.1 miles.
From Kihei: Depart on S. Kihei Rd. (north). Go for 0.2 miles. Turn right (east) onto SR-310 (N. Kihei Rd.) and go for 0.1 miles. Turn left (north) onto SR-311 (Mokulele Hwy.) and go for 6.5 miles. Turn right (north-east) onto SR-380 (Dairy Rd.) and go for 0.6 miles. Turn left (west) onto Alamaha St. and go for 0.1 miles. Turn right (north-east) onto Papa Pl. and go for 0.1 miles. |
