Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto Tour
See the two most famous and spectacular sights on Kauai: Waimea Canyon and Fern Grotto. Waimea is truly an awe-inspiring sight. Mark Twain called it the "Grand Canyon of the Pacific". At ten miles long and more than a half mile deep, this incredible chasm sports a rainbow of colorful rock layers revealing its geological age. Yellow ginger, eucalyptus trees and mokihana berries abound here up to the 3,500 foot elevation. After your visit to the canyon, you'll visit the most romantic spot in all of Hawaii. Fern Grotto, celebrated in song and film, is only accessible by a 40-minute boat trip up Wailua River. The river is the only navigable river in all of Hawaii. Along the way, you'll see interesting sights, such as the lush, green grasslands and Mt. Waialeale looming in the background. It's the wettest spot on Earth, receiving more than 400 inches of rain per year. |
The grotto is a beautiful, fern-fringed lava cave that is cooled by the mists of a waterfall. There was a time when the cave was off-limits to all but Hawaiian royalty. It's the ideal place to pledge your undying love and indeed, it's a popular spot for marriages. The natural acoustics of the grotto are amazing and there's nothing quite like hearing the Hawaiian Wedding song echo through its passages.
This is a great adventure and you'll have plenty of opportunities to take some awesome pictures. Between points, you'll travel in a comfortable, air-conditioned mini-bus driven by a friendly, knowledgeable driver. |

Our tour guide - Noni - was the best. She was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. She was professional and kept things running on time.
I wish we could have spent more time at each spot though. |
